Blog NMSB visit proves to be an eye-opener for Lymington group

24th November 2009

A day out at New Milton Sand and Ballast left members of Lymington’s University of the Third Age branch impressed.

Members of the organisation - which exists to give older people the chance to continue learning - visited the company’s site at Hurn, near Bournemouth Airport, and its recycling facility at Pennington in the New Forest, as well viewing the future extraction site at Downton Manor Farm.

The group met staff, watched equipment in action, viewed the company’s day-to-day operations and found out about how it cares for the environment and restores the countryside.

Pauline Jenkins, from Lymington U3A, said: “I don’t think any of us realised quite what happens there. I also didn’t know that New Milton Sand and Ballast had a site near Bournemouth Airport. It seems that all the places that they have are really beautiful and are good for the countryside.

Everyone was very interested and pleasantly surprised, because you don’t know quite what to expect.
We have a really good local company on our doorstep doing so well and working well with the community.”

Trevor Poole, Managing Director at NMSB, said: “We are proud to be a local company and we like to take the opportunity to welcome groups like the U3A to show them exactly what we do. We aim to be a part of the community and visits like this are part of that ethos.”
