Members of the Rotary Club spent a fascinating morning visiting the New Milton Sand and Ballast site near Hurn Airport recently, as part of their vocational learning programme.
The visitors learnt how the sand and gravel was washed and graded into 11 different sizes. They were then taken to the Pennington waste recycling centre, to learn more about New Milton Sand and Ballast's recycled products. All the visitors were intrigued to see specialist machinery in action; recycling skip waste including concrete, bricks, non ferrous metal, plasterboard and timber.
John Bloomfield, who organised the trip for his fellow Rotary members, said: ''We found visits to both sites fascinating and very educational. Many of us were not aware of the scope of their work, nor the technology and expertise involved. A great morning was enjoyed by all.''
Michael Badcock, of New Milton Sand and Ballast, said: ''We thoroughly enjoy showing New Forest Rotary Club around our sites and introducing them to what we do here. We take particular delight in encouraging interest groups and schools to visit our sites. We extend an open invitation for other groups to join in this experience of a local company making progress to a more sustainable future.''
