Children from Corpus Christi School in Bournemouth and AFC Bournemouth’s mascot Cherry Bear were among those who helped out at the latest Green Goals community clean up day.
More than 12 bags of litter were collected and cleared from land at Littledown Valley in Kings Park, a popular cut through to the football stadium in Bournemouth, at the event supported by New Milton Sand and Ballast and other local partners.
The event was organised as part of the Green Goals project – a unique partnership of football, education and business – aimed at making Bournemouth a greener, safer, cleaner place to live, work and visit.
Trevor Poole, Joint Managing Director of New Milton Sand and Ballast, said: ‘This is the first Green Goals event of the summer and it was great to have so many people supporting the clean-up. Everyone got behind the event and it was wonderful to see the children’s support for this campaign. Working in partnership we can all help to make the area greener and safer.’
Larry Austin, Street Services Manager, Bournemouth Council, said: ‘This was the third Green Goals community clean up day we’ve organised and once again it was a marvellous occasion. Everyone worked together to help make it a success and this popular spot looks all the better for our efforts. The fact AFC Bournemouth always lends it support on the day is always a winner with the young people and I’m delighted at another successful Green Goals event.’
All those who took part in the clean up day have the chance to win match tickets, mascot packages and other prizes donated by AFC Bournemouth.
Green Goals Partners include AFC Bournemouth, New Milton Sand & Ballast, Castlepoint Shopping Park, New Earth Solutions, W&S Recycling and Bournemouth Council Street Services.
The Green Goals project will be launching its second year of environmental activities at AFC Bournemouth’s first home game of the new football season in August.
