Meet Alex Bellis, Accounts Administrator

After relocating from London to the New Forest, I wasn’t too sure what career to pursue. I trained as a primary school teacher, and knew that I wanted to make the most of my organisational skills, but with the benefit of being able to have a fair work-life balance.

I began at NMSB in the HR department in an administrative role, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was clear from the get go that everyone was very welcoming, supportive and were keen to help guide me down the right career path, even if that wasn’t in HR.

After just over a year, and with plenty of guidance, I decided to take the leap to the Accounts department! Fast-forward 1 year, I have gone from having very limited accountancy knowledge, to feeling comfortable and competent in my role.

Many believe the stereotype and perceive accounting jobs to be rather boring, but I can truly say that there is never a dull day. I am constantly learning from my knowledgeable colleagues and developing my skillset. It is also reassuring to know that management are keen to invest in the systems we use daily, which have already began to modernise and rejuvenate the way we work.

Not only do I feel very supported by my manager and colleagues, I appreciate that the company is investing in my development through supporting me through my AAT qualification. These studies have helped me understand accounting concepts and develop my overall knowledge, which I can put into practice on a daily basis. Going forward, I am hopeful that NMSB will continue to support my professional development, as I now know that accounting was the career I have been looking for and am excited for what is to come in the years ahead.

As a whole, and from my experience in two different departments, I regard NMSB as a fantastic company to work for. I find all my colleagues and management approachable, warm and, importantly, have a great sense of humour. I am particularly looking forward to seeing all of my team back together for the first time since COVID restrictions. I also look forward to hopefully meeting lots of new faces once we can come together again as a company for a “jolly”!
