Getting to know us – Sporting & Horticultural

New Milton Sand and Ballast is a leading supplier of premium rootzones, specialist sands and top dressing across the South.

Our specialist Sporting and Horticultural division is perhaps a part of the business that is not as well known to all. 11 years ago, we bought the highly acclaimed Roffey Brothers amenity sports and sands company. Based in Throop, they had a longstanding reputation and over 70 years’ experience for delivering specialised products to golf courses, football clubs, many professional nurseries, and contractors.

Today we continue to service the amenity, leisure, and horticultural industries from our Wareham quarry, with the highest possible standards of material quality. Our dedicated production site based at Downton Manor Farm in Milford on Sea, enables us to carry out rigorous testing which ensures our products deliver optimum quality and performance.

We have recently gained planning permission to relocate our production operations to a much larger site in West Grimstead, near Salisbury, which will enable our production rates to double.

Whether you are building a professional sports venue or a local training facility, our experience, quality products and technical expertise can help you deliver a world class surface. Having supported many major projects locally we are proud to see our products at venues such as: our sports dressing sand at AFC Bournemouth’s main pitch, bunker sands and top dressings at Remedy Oak golf course, a green waste compost divot mix at Bulbury Woods golf course, our 50/50 divot mix for Sway Cricket Club, and our Path Toppa and sports dressing sands at Theale Golf Club, to name a few.

Our team of technical experts can work with you throughout your project to find the perfect solution to maximise your project’s performance and longevity. Alongside providing any other building materials you might need for club maintenance, such as fencing, concrete, landscaping products etc. We are also happy to support with those unusual requests – an exciting project underway with Boundary Lakes golf course sees them taking a rather different approach to their bunkers – probably a first for the industry!

Not forgetting the other side to this part of the business – our soils and composts. From new-build gardens to garden revamps, we supply a selection of quality soil and compost for all types of projects.

Our soil and composts are carefully selected for their quality and suitability for domestic and commercial use. From container compost for your raised beds to tree and shrub planting compost full of slow-release fertiliser, we have something to suit most applications. Most products can be purchased from our sites or Builder’s Merchants.
