Our grass seed comes from DLF, a global market leader in forage and turf seed for temperate climates, supplying locally adapted products to more than 100 countries worldwide. DLF’s UK head office and Inkberrow operations are based at Thorn Farm, Inkberrow, Worcestershire. The UK business has developed through a series of acquisitions and mergers, including the 2001 merger between DLF Trifolium (UK) and Perryfields Holdings Limited. This long-standing commercial and research heritage means the mixes we supply are developed through seed breeding, trials and ongoing product innovation, not simply selected as off-the-shelf products.

Sowing in Hot Weather

Grass seed needs consistent moisture to germinate successfully, and this becomes far more difficult to manage in summer conditions. In hot weather, seed must not dry out during germination, which can mean watering lightly two or three times a day. Missing just one day during a heatwave can mean losing the seed altogether, so it's important to only sow in hot weather if you can commit to a strict watering routine.

If you do need to sow during a warm spell, there are steps you can take to improve your chances of success:

Water Early and Late: Water in the early morning and evening to reduce evaporation and keep the seedbed consistently moist.
Choose the Right Mix: A fast-germinating seed helps minimise the vulnerable period before roots establish.
Protect the Seedbed: Covering with breathable horticultural fleece can help retain moisture, though polythene should be avoided as it can overheat and cook the seed.
Avoid Extremes: Hold off sowing during heatwaves or drought, as soil temperatures above 30°C can cook the seed outright; wait for a cooler spell, ideally with rain forecast.

Applications & Suitability

Sunny or lightly shaded areas with moderate to high foot traffic.

Avoid in:

Golf greens or bowling greens requiring fine-textured turf.
Deep shade or poorly draining areas where persistent damp restricts growth.

Maintenance tips:

Mow regularly at 25–40mm to encourage density.
Feed in spring and autumn with a balanced turf fertiliser.
Overseed annually to maintain uniform coverage and vigour.
