Local Primary School pupil creates eye-catching new design for our Road Sweeper

Earlier this month, we revealed the new, colourful design of our road sweeper, following a competition with the students at Milford on Sea C of E Primary School. This week, we went to the school to reveal the vehicle to the students, and the winner, Tyler Pallant, age 9, along with runners up, Elouise Pallant, Mia Roberts and India Dowse, all received mini models of their designs.

Over the past six months, we have worked with the school on several projects, including the removal of their old swimming pool and recycling of the materials through our recycling facility in Pennington. Students and teachers visited our Pennington site in November 2023, to learn more about how the recycling process works and see it in action. Ending the project by hosting an interactive assembly about the importance of recycling and launching the road sweeper competition.

The competition, which received over 50 entries, was aimed to educate young people about the importance of recycling. Students were asked to create a design for the road sweeper around the theme of ‘Recycling Awareness’. Entries were assessed by a panel of judges, comprised of Head Teacher - Kate Crawford, NMSB Waste Manager - Rob Wheeler, and the driver of the Road Sweeper - Paul Brierley.

Kate Crawford, Headteacher, says: "The ‘Road Sweeper Design competition’ caused much excitement across the school, which culminated in a visit from the newly painted Road Sweeper with Tyler’s design and school logo proudly displayed on the side. It was received with very loud cheers and 320 pupils and their families will now be eagerly looking out for the truck in the local community.

Thank you NMSB for bringing learning to life and helping us spread an important environmental message!"

Suzanne Wright, Marketing & Strategy Director, comments: “Our ongoing partnership with Milford on Sea Primary School is something we’re immensely proud of. Engaging with the local community is one of our top priorities, as is recycling, so to combine the two has been fantastic. Alongside the launch of our road sweeper, welcoming the school to our facility in Pennington is definitely a highlight for us – getting the opportunity to educate future generations on waste education and sustainability.”

Our road sweeper can be seen tidying up the local roads between Lymington and Wallisdown, as well as maintaining our sites. We hope that Tylers fantastic design will bring a smile to your face and spread his positive message to look after the environment.
