NMSB supply materials to NHS project, funded by Banksy painting

We have recently been involved in a very exciting project and were proud to attend the grand opening of the new rooftop break area for the staff at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton.

Over the past few months, we have been working with West End Roofing on this very special project, supplying a range of materials from 20mm golden shingle, Saige Decking, cement, and timber to a specialist Polypipe system and Leca aggregate.

We made regular visits to follow their progress, and it was great to see our products playing such an integral part in this unique project.

The project was funded by the sale of a Banksy painting, ‘Game Changer’ which appeared at Southampton General Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic. The painting was sent to auction on the basis that the money raised would be used to fund something for the staff, to thank them for their hard work and resilience throughout the pandemic and beyond.

The painting now hangs in the corridor of Southampton General Hospital

The painting, predicted to sell for between £2.5 to £3.5m, ended up selling for an enormous £16.8m, allowing University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust to fund several projects, including the rooftop garden at Princess Anne Hospital.

It was lovely to see the staff at Princess Anne Hospital enjoying their new break area, surrounded by beautiful plants and views across the city from their rooftop garden.
