The hidden treasures of quarrying

There are many types of quarries across the country, all excavating different minerals and materials such as sands, stone and slate. New Milton Sand and Ballast quarry for sand and gravel.

This type of quarrying is vital in the production of construction materials that build new houses and support and maintain the infrastructure that we all rely on daily, such as our roads.

Discovering Ancient History

One of the most exciting areas of quarrying can be the items we discover.  Some of our quarries over the years have unveiled some interesting historic artefacts linking back to the Roman or Iron Age periods.

We have expert archaeologists on hand to help us identify the items we find and ensure they are kept safe whilst we quarry.

Acknowledging this fascinating link our company has to ancient history and being aware that many of our staff and customers have children or grandchildren at home for the holidays, we have created a fun activity to do.
