Join us as we celebrate 85 years and take a look back at our fleet
Join us on a trip down memory lane as we celebrate our 85 year anniversary and look back at all the different trucks we've had in our fleet over the years!
Trucks from the early days
The earliest vehicles we have recorded as being part of the NMSB fleet are the Dodge trucks, just like the one that is sitting outside our head office at New Milton. We also have an old photo of a fleet of Dodge trucks at Caird Avenue from around 1965!

We said goodbye to the trusty Dodge trucks and moved on to the D Series Ford Tippers, followed by the Volvo F86.

New technologies in the 80's & 90's
The Scania Tipper was introduced to our fleet in the late 80s/early 90s and was one of our most widely used and known trucks. We then introduced the Iveco HIAB truck for loading and unloading our aggregates.

Introducing more eco-friendly trucks in the 21st century
Nowadays, we work with several manufacturers including MAN, Volvo, Daff and Iveco, ensuring our fleet is kept modern and as eco friendly as possible. Any new vehicles we bring into the fleet are all now fitted with Euro 6 engines. This is the cleanest diesel engine on the market and is already adopted by the European Union for its low emissions. We will look to move to electric or hydrogen HGVs as soon as the suppliers are able to fully support these vehicles.
Having local sites and local quarries enables our transport teams to stay local, reducing our carbon footprint. Efficiency also helps reduce fuel usage and improve our miles per gallon (MPG), and things like regular monitoring of tyres and increasing the servicing of our vehicles helps with maintenance, further reducing elements like tyre dust.
Our fleet includes vehicles for all different capabilities, including:
New trucks for 2021
This year we have rebranded our trucks to include our refreshed logo, where we reintroduced the B back into our name - NMSB. Also, to celebrate our 85th anniversary, we have created a very special replica truck of the well loved Scania Tipper from the 80's/90's. You may have already seen this beauty out and about in New Milton and beyond.

Anniversary Truck Competition
To celebrate our 85th anniversary this year, we commissioned a truck to be painted in the colours of the well-loved Scania Tipper from our fleet in the 80's. We are looking to name this special replica and we need your help.

Our transport team
Of course we can’t forget our transport team when talking about our fleet!
We now have over 40 drivers, supported by logistic planners and the compliance department. All mainly work out of New Milton, but roles can be based out of our sites at Hurn, Elliott Road - Wallisdown or Wareham, depending on the position. Our driving roles are locally based with no over-night stopping and no late evenings, providing a good work/life balance for a driver. A lot of our drivers are multi-skilled meaning they get to drive different vehicles across the fleet.
We are currently looking for more drivers to join the team, check out our roles here.
Kevin, Transport Manager for NMSB has been with us for 30 years. When asked what is was that has seen him stay so long, Kevin said: “New Milton Sand and Ballast is a special place to work. Every day is varied and our team genuinely has a vital part to play in the production journey in delivering our goods to our customers and maintaining our sites stock. I love our rural locations, the interesting bunch of colleagues, our distinctive and long standing brand, and the opportunity to keep developing my skills personally.”
